Lee County, State of Mayflower #300862095
Description
The County of Lee is one of the four counties of the State of Mayflower within the Union of Columbia. Established in 1783 and named for General E. Lee, the county is renowned for its rugged coastline, forested highlands, and its prominent bay, which has historically supported thriving maritime industries. Early settlers from Pax Britannia established fishing villages along the coast in the mid-1600s, with Cedar Bay Village becoming a notable center for shipbuilding and coastal trade. Inland, fertile valleys supported farming communities that supplied the growing coastal settlements. The county seat, Winchester, is a prominent "city on the hill," overlooking the bay and serving as the cultural and political heart of Lee County. Known for its historic town commons, colonial architecture, and panoramic vistas of the surrounding waterways, Winchester has long been a symbol of Lee County’s heritage and resilience.
