Description

-[29th] Ranger Battalion]- The 29th Provisional Ranger Battalion was composed of 29s from the 115th, 116th and 175th Infantry regiments. They were recruited into an elite hit-and-run strike force whose mission would be to gather enemy intelligence, commit disruptive sabotage, or simply raid-in-force enemy installations. Formed in December 1942 in England as a detachment of volunteers from the 29th Infantry Division, the battalion underwent commando training under British supervision and participated in raids on German installations, mostly in concert with No. 4 Commando.
