Description
The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Division of the Georgia Department of Public Safety is a statewide law enforcement division dedicated to improving highway safety involving commercial motor vehicles. CVE Officers patrol Georgia’s highways and conduct detailed inspections of commercial vehicles, drivers, and cargo, including hazardous-material shipments. Officers enforce state and federal laws governing commercial vehicle safety, weight, size, licensing, and equipment requirements. CVE Officers also operate permanent and portable scales to identify overweight vehicles, assist with commercial motor vehicle crash investigations, and conduct enforcement at inspection stations and carrier terminals. The division conducts safety audits and compliance investigations of motor carriers, oversees school bus safety inspections, and may enforce HOV/HOT lane laws in designated areas. CVE Officers are sworn law enforcement officers with specialized commercial vehicle enforcement training.
