Description
The Department of Conservation (Māori: Te Papa Atawhai) is a public service department responsible for the promotion of ecological conservation and management of state parks and conservation land across Aotearoa-New Zealand. Formed in 1987 via the merger of the Department of Lands and Survey, the NZ Forest Service, and the NZ Wildlife Service, the department today looks after around 80,000 square kilometres of conservation land totalling almost 30% of Aotearoa-New Zealand's landmass.
