O Império Alemão (também chamado de Alemanha Imperial ou Segundo Reich) foi o Estado alemão desde a unificação da Alemanha em 1871. Foi fundado em 18 de janeiro de 1871, após a vitória na Guerra Franco-Prussiana. A maioria dos estados alemães, liderados pela Prússia, uniram-se à Confederação da Alemanha do Norte, formando o novo Império. O rei da Prússia, Guilherme I, tornou-se o Imperador Alemão, e Otto von Bismarck foi nomeado Chanceler. Berlim permaneceu a capital. O império incluía 25 estados (reinos, ducados, principados e cidades livres), mas a Prússia dominava política e territorialmente. A industrialização foi rápida, com destaque para carvão, aço, química e ferrovias.
