Samnites History Safineis means Samnites in Oscan, a old and extinct Indo-European language of southern Italian closely related to Umbrian, another Indo-European language of middle Italy. The Samnites were a culture group in the southern parts of Italy, though they weren’t greek they shared some language connections with greek. The Samnites went toe to toe with the Romans which cause the romans to get defeated at the Battle of the Caudine Forks.. which cause the romans to sign a armistice which humiliated the romans. This battle caused the romans to abaden in the way of Phalanx fighting that they adopted from greece and adopt a new army system which took elements from the samnites and other culture of italy at the time to form a good fighting unit that conquer italy, though the roman would have never gotten so far if this defeat didn’t Occur Military Being set up Communications Being set up too
