Description
Regimiento de Infantería "Barcelona" 50º was formed on April 29th, 1793. The regiment was originally formed as the 1st Barcelona Volunteer Battalion No. 43, however they were formed into the 50º Barcelona regiment. They served in the initial French revolution, and served throughout the rest of the Peninsular war. Additionally during the later years of the war they fought in North and South America to prevent the Spanish colonies from revolting. The regiment was known as "El Brilliante".
