Description
The United States Revenue-Marine, as established in August of 1790 by Alexander Hamilton, served to protect the American coastline and the economic integrity of related commerce. Acting as the precursor to the Coast Guard, the Revenue-Marine would aid the United States Navy in various military actions, enforce tariffs as maritime customs agents, and partake in rescue operations intended to recover or assist shipwrecked mariners.
