𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐄𝐗𝐀𝐒 “𝙏𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙇𝙞𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙮!” The Republic of Texas was a sovereign nation that existed from 1836 to 1845. It declared independence from Mexico on March 2, 1836, and secured that independence following the Texian victory at the Battle of San Jacinto the following month. The Republic was recognized by the United States, France, the Netherlands, and Great Britain. The government operated under a written constitution with an elected President, Congress, and Supreme Court. It maintained its own military forces, including an army, navy, marines, and ranging companies, and issued currency while maintaining diplomatic representatives abroad. Despite financial difficulties and intermittent conflict with Mexico, the Republic functioned as an independent state until annexation by the United States in 1845.
