Description
Napoleon forced King Ferdinand IV out of the Kingdom of Naples in 1806. Ferdinand retreated to the island of Sicily with help and protection from the British Navy. Due to the British domination of the Mediterranean Sea, the French did not occupy Sicily. From then on, the Kingdom of Sicily was utilized by the British as a naval base against the French Empire, along with helping Sicilian forces resist French invasions.
