Crown and Conflict _________________ THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR What was it? -The English Civil War was fought between two sides within England, the New Model Army (nicknamed the 'roundheads'), and the English Army, also known as the monarchists. It ran from 1642 until 1651. It was also associated with a larger war involving three other kingdoms, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, also named the 'War of Three Kingdoms'. What leaders were involved? -The leaders involved were the Lord Protector, and King Charles I (and Charles II) of England.
