Description
The Greek City-State of Thebes is one of history's most illustrious civilizations. With unmatched will and strength, the Thebans overcame even the strongest Invaders. Through diplomacy and a highly trained military, Thebes quickly rose to become Greece's superpower. In the 4th Century BC, Thebes rose to become the leading City-State in Greece, even surpassing Sparta. Through its many myths and legends, Thebes is home to the stories of Cadmus, Oedipus, Dionysus, and Heracles. The story of Heracles played an important part in Theban Culture. It was common practice for the Theban Hoplites to wear the Club of Heracles on their shield, signifying their unmatched strength in battle.
