Description
Viceroyalty of New Spain ━━━━━━━━━━━━━ The New Spain colonial era refers to the period of Spanish colonial rule in the territory that is now known as Mexico and parts of the United States, Central America, and the Caribbean. It began in 1521 with the conquest of the Aztec Empire by Hernán and lasted until 1821 when Mexico gained independence from Spain. During the New Spain colonial era, the Spanish established a hierarchical social structure that was based on racial and ethnic divisions. At the top of the social hierarchy were the peninsulares, who were Spanish-born colonists. They held the highest positions of power and authority in the colony. Below them were the criollos, who were people of Spanish descent born in the Americas. The criollos were often wealthy landowners and merchants but were excluded from high-ranking government and church positions. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Virrey de Nueva España: Archdukeday Motto: Plus ultra Communications: znQq83jt8U Founded: 6/4/2023
