Description
Welcome to the Sacred Band. Don't get confused with other Sacred Bands throughout Greek history. This unit formed in 1942 by exiled Greek forces in Egypt and was part of the SAS and later the SBS during WW2. It partaken in operations in North Africa (El Alamein, Tunisia) and in the Aegean Islands (so it has nothing to do with the Western Front, but who cares). Its last operation was during the Dekemvriava or December events when EAM and ΕΛΑΣ partisans clashed in Athens. By January of 1945 the unit was disbanded. Our motto '' Η ΤΑΝ # ### ### - # ### I EPI TAS '' originates from ancient Greece, when Spartan women said farewell to their sons that gone in war. It means ''(I will wait for you) with #### (your shield, as a victor), or above (your shield, oofed) As a metaphor it means ''Return as a winner, or die trying to become one.''
