Description
During the Napoleonic Wars, Bavaria transformed from an electorate into a kingdom under Maximilian I Joseph, thanks to its alliance with Napoleon in 1805. Bavarian troops supported France in key battles like Austerlitz, gaining territory and adopting modern reforms, including centralized governance and secularization. However, as Napoleon's power waned after the failed Russian campaign in 1812, Bavaria switched sides in 1813 through the Treaty of Ried, joining the Allies to secure its sovereignty. By the war's end, Bavaria had preserved its status and emerged as a key member of the German Confederation.
