Description
With the British Conquest of Sri Lanka in 1815, transport around and from the island was needed. With this the Ceylon Steamship Company was formed, having its first ship, completed in 1819, the Company would officially go into business, with funding from the British Government. In 1948, with the independence of Ceylon from British rule, the company would finally disband.
