Description
🌿Herzogtum Kärnten 🌿Ducatus Carinthiæ 🌿Vojvodina Koroška 📜The Duchy of Carinthia was a sovereign duchy of the Holy Roman Empire, established in 976 AD. It was ruled first by the Spanheim dynasty and later by the Meinhardiner counts of Gorizia-Tyrol. ⚜️In 1335, after the death of the heirless Duke Henry of Carinthia, Emperor Louis IV granted the duchy to the Austrian Habsburgs. It later became one of the crown lands of Cisleithania within the Austro-Hungarian Empire until its dissolution in 1918. 📍Its territory lay predominantly in what is now Austria, with smaller parts in present-day Slovenia. Its capital was located in the city of Sankt Veit an der Glan (Šentvid ob Glini). The official written language was Latin, while German and Slovene were the principal spoken languages, with Southern Bavarian German predominating in the north and west, and Carinthian Slovene in the south and southeast.
