Description
The cabinet order of early May 1813, ordered the formation of 13 new infantry regiments from the third and reserve battalion that were formed by the reservists. The first of those formed was the Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 12, which was fully formed on the first day of July 1813. It was formed using the 1st and 2nd reserve battalions of the Life Infantry Regiment No. 9, which became the 1st and 2nd Musketeer Battalions, and the 3rd Reserve Battalion of the First West Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 6, which became the Fusilier Battalion. In mid June, 1813, when the foot guards regiment was taken out of the line, the First Brandenburg Regiment was renumbered as the 12th regiment. Because of casualties suffered in early February 1814, the Fusiliers were merged with the 3rd battalion of the 12th Reserve Infantry Regiment to form a combined battalion suitable for field operations. The 1st and 2nd Battalions were also so torn up that they were merged into a single battalion.
