Description
The 2nd Continental Light Dragoons, established in 1777, quickly became a vital component of the Continental Army's cavalry forces during the American Revolutionary War. Under the leadership of Colonel Elisha Sheldon, the regiment was primarily composed of soldiers from Connecticut and played a crucial role in reconnaissance, skirmishing, and raiding British supply lines. Their mobility and horsemanship proved invaluable in gathering intelligence and disrupting enemy movements. The 2nd Dragoons participated in several significant engagements, including the Battle of Monmouth and the Siege of Yorktown, contributing significantly to the Patriot cause through their daring exploits and tactical support.
