Description
The 16th Independent Special Forces Brigade (16BrSN) is one of the oldest brigades of the Russian SDF, established back in 1983. It is engaged in missions ranging from fighting with ter to special operations in mountainous terrain. By a directive of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces in October-November 1984, a combined special forces detachment was created on the basis of the 16th brigade to participate in hostilities in Afghanistan. The consolidated detachment was created on the basis of the 370th special forces detachment.
