Description
The House of Ponsonby was established in the 1600s under the landform of the Earldom of Bessborough, the Ponsonby Family kept the title until its extinction caused by King Charles II, when he demoted the current Earl of Bessborough under charges of treason. During the reign of his niece, Queen Mary II, The current head of the Ponsonby family was given the newly made title "Viscount Ponsonby" which the Ponsonby family has held for years to come.
