Saxones #327581346
Description
The Saxones are a North German tribe. They lived in western Holstein including the Dithmarschen and Stormarn regions, and the area of Hamburg in Schleswig-Holstein and North Germany; and the islands of Helgoland, Dycksand, Vielschovel, Amrum, Fohr, and Sylt. These places would later be lumped together and called Nordalbingia. In the 3rd century they would assimilate the Reudigni from the Danish island of Selund, the Aviones from the Danish islands of Fyen and Laaland and Swedish island of Oland, and the Chauci of East Westphalia-Lippe region between Osnabruck and Hanover. Their name comes from the Seax, a small single-bladed fighting knife which they used exclusively, famous for their raids on Britain and Gaul from the 3rd century onwards, being one of the peoples to form the first English nations. They would expand over the next centuries into Lower Saxony, Westphalia, the northern Netherlands, and Saxony, holding it until the 9th century when it became part of the Frankish Empire.

Growth
Growth history is still building. We hold one measurement for this entry. A trend needs at least two, taken days apart — so this will fill in on its own rather than being estimated. We do not publish numbers we have not measured.
