6th Raider Parachute Battalion #32765660
Description
6th Raider Parachute Battalion "Ebisu" After recognizing the tactical potential of the Marine Raiders and Paramarines in the Solomon Islands Campaign and on Makin Atoll, Headquarters Marine Corps ordered the merger of the two to form the "Raider Parachute Regiments" in early 1943. These Regiments would serve as highly specialized reconnaissance assets to I, III, and V Amphibious Corps in the Pacific Theater, assisting the Marine Corps and the Office of Strategic Services with direct action and special reconnaissance in jungle terrain throughout the South Pacific, China, and French Indochina. By mid-1944, with the Pacific becoming an increasingly conventional, long-winded battle of attrition, the 2nd Raider Parachute Regiment consisting of the 2nd, 4th, and 6th were transferred to the European and Mediterranean Theaters of Operations to assist partisan forces in Italy and France, and to raid enemy forces and installations in preparation for the Allied invasion of Western Europe.
