Description
The Eastern Orthodox Church emerged as a distinct branch of Christianity following the Great Schism of 1054, which divided the Christian world into the Western Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. The primary cause of this schism was a combination of theological, political, and cultural differences between the Latin-speaking West and the Greek-speaking East. The theological teachings of the Eastern Orthodox Church are rooted in the early Christian Church and its understanding of the Holy Trinity, sacraments, and the role of the Church.
