Description

The Army of Arauco, was created in 1603 and included 3 Tercios. It was created due repeated denials when it came to requests asking for reinforcements from Spain and as a result of wars with the Mapuches. The army consisted of Spaniards, men born in the New World, Creoles, and Mestizos soldiers alongside contingents of Yanaconas and auxiliary Indians. Forts were also built north of the Biobío with the center of operations being in QuiIIota. This army numbered numbered 1500 to 2000 men with each Tercio having about 500 men.
