Description
The State of Absaroka was admitted to the Union in January of 1961, following the enactment of the Western Montana Land Separation and Absaroka Statehood Acts, as the fifty-first state of the United States. The movement for statehood began in June of 1935, during the height of the Great Depression, as a political protest driven by rural ranchers and farmers from northern Montana, who felt neglected by the state government, believing that New Deal federal aid was being unfairly distributed, favoring urban areas over rural communities. Today, the State of Absaroka continues to serve as a state of the United States, considered a major industry and natural resources hub, including minerals, timber, and algaculture products, as well as its expansive landscapes.
