Description
Established in 1849, the Supreme Court of the State of California is the highest court of the State. The Court often weighs in on matters of constitutional importance and serves as the final appellate court of the State. Decisions made by the State Supreme Court are binding to all other Courts and individuals within the State of California. The Supreme Court and Judiciary of California are led by the Chief Justice, who serves for life. The Orange County Superior Court is the lesser equivalent of the State Supreme Court, and is the court of first instance for all criminal and civil matters within Orange County. The Superior Court is led by a Chief Judge, and has jurisdiction throughout Orange County.
