Description
The Silures were a dominant warrior horse tribe during the Bronze Age, Iron Age, and later into the Middle Ages. Located in south-east Wales, they dominated their neighbouring tribes and slaughtered the Romans who had come to conquer them. They were feared for their visage, savagery, and intensity. Utilising phycological and guerilla warfare, they defeated legate Publius Ostorius Scapula around AD 48 who declared they were a major threat. The Second Legion was then sent to destroy them, whom the Silures captured and humiliated with a mass massacre and ritual sacrifice. They represented the unbreakable will of the savage Briton tribes who eventually broke Rome's expansion. Centuries later their tribal leaders would form the Welsh kingdom of Gwent.
