Lutheranism advocates a doctrine of justification "by grace alone through faith alone on the basis of Scripture alone", the doctrine that scripture is the final authority on all matters of faith. He may have taken pages out of the bible and even voided the use of others, but he did it for a reason, the passages in the old testament for those non-Lutheran were full of bigotry and selfish statements. What is life if one may not live it how they wish? Why live life only to be bashed for what you do or are? Luther believed in God, Jesus and the Holy spirit. Not "God, Jesus and make life horrible for those that do not believe in the same views as me."
