The Galactic Senate was the legislative body that served as the democratic heart of the Galactic Republic, operating for thousands of years in the massive Senate Rotunda on Coruscant. Established around 1032 BBY, this institution shaped the Republic's policies through the systems represented by senators from across the galaxy. -----.-----.----- During the Clone Wars, which began with the Battle of Geonosis in 22 BBY, the Senate faced attacks from both within and without. Criminals like Cad Bane took senators hostage, while Separatist droids plunged Coruscant into darkness. When Palpatine declared himself Emperor in 19 BBY, the Senate's powers were transferred to regional governors, and the institution became symbolic. Ultimately, the Senate was completely dissolved just before the Battle of Yavin.
