Description
Originally aristocrats, Uesugi Clan became warriors after moving to Kanto for Imperial Prince Munetaka when he was chosen to be Shogun. They took their name from Uesugi in Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture. They are well-known for being a warrior family that prospered from the Kamakura and Muromachi Periods to the Edo Period.
