The Maritime Republic of Genoa was a trading empire, and would encompass the Mediterranean, from Italy to the Levant, to Crimea & Caucasus. Genoa was known for its many mercenary Crossbowmen, which carried Palisades and, of course, their crossbows. Genoa was also known for its merchant fleets, naval power, and its influence around the Mediterranean.
