Description
The 1971 war between India and Pakistan was a major armed conflict that lasted for nearly two weeks, from December 16, 1971. The war was primarily fought over the independence of East Pakistan, which later became the sovereign nation of Bangladesh. The causes of the war can be traced back to the political and humanitarian crisis unfolding in East Pakistan. The conflict began with Pakistan launching a pre-emptive aerial strike on Indian airfields on December 3, 1971, there was a attempt to neutralize the Indian Air Force. However, India retaliated with a full-scale assault on both the eastern and western fronts. The Indian army, equipped with superior firepower and a well-executed strategy, swiftly gained control over the East Pakistani territory. The war witnessed several significant military operations, such as Operation Trident conducted by the Indian Navy, which effectively crippled the Pakistani Navy and blocked their western ports.
