Description
The Hyōe-fu (兵衛府), or Middle Palace Guards, was one of the six military guard offices within the Rokuefu, responsible for patrolling and securing the areas surrounding the Imperial Palace and the capital. Divided into Left (Sahyōe-fu) and Right (Uhyōe-fu) divisions, its duties included maintaining order in Kyoto, conducting patrols, guarding important routes, and assisting in security during court ceremonies and official processions. It acted as an intermediary force between the inner palace guards and the outer gate guards.
