Description
Priory House, located in Southend-on-Sea, is a significant historical building with roots stretching back to the medieval period. Originally part of the Cluniac priory of Prittlewell, established around 1110, the house was associated with the monastic complex that flourished until the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII. After the dissolution, the priory lands and buildings were repurposed, with the priory church becoming a parish church and other buildings converted for various uses. Priory House itself has seen several transformations and renovations over the centuries, reflecting changes in ownership and usage.
