In the Second Crusade, they resided in the mountainous regions of Persia and the Levant, adhering to a strict policy of espionage across the Middle East. Over the span of almost three centuries, they targeted hundreds identified as foes of the Isma'ili state. The Assassins have been known to align with Christian crusaders to pursue objectives against others Islamic factions.
