Description
Peshmerga refers to the military forces of the autonomous Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq. The word "Peshmerga" translates to "those who face death," reflecting the bravery and commitment of these soldiers. The Peshmerga have a long history dating back to the early 20th century, fighting for Kurdish autonomy and rights. Over the decades, they have played a crucial role in the region, particularly during the conflicts against the Iraqi government, the fight against a bad state, and in defending the Kurdistan Region. The Peshmerga are divided into units aligned with the two main Kurdish political parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Despite this division, they often unite when facing common threats. The Peshmerga are known for their resilience and effectiveness in combat, often working alongside international forces. Their involvement in the fight against a bad state brought them global recognition and support.
