Description
Ohangwena Region, Angola-Namibia Border c. 1983-1985 In 1962, SWAPO was formed to resist South African rule and petition for South West African independence. With support from the Soviet Union, SWAPO began training guerrillas and from 1966 onwards frequently clashed with the South African police and army. The "Cutline" was the main border crossing from South West Africa (Namibia) to mainland Angola which had a straight road going through the border with regular vehicle checks done by the South African Army. During this period, many firefights due to the misunderstanding of what part was who's as tension increased.
