𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 - 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 "The Regulars” The 2nd Regiment of Infantry was first authorized by the Act of December 20, 1836, as part of President Houston’s expansion of the Regular Army. It was again reauthorized In December 1838 under President Lamar, and was designed to supplement the 1st Regiment during a period of escalating frontier conflict, the 2nd was legally intended to garrison a new line of outposts stretching toward the Red River. However, the regiment suffered from severe recruitment failures and financial crises, gathering only a small cadre of roughly a dozen officers and a shifting handful of enlistees. Rather than functioning as a unified maneuver element, it existed almost entirely on paper. While its few scattered recruits were absorbed into the 1st Infantry or local garrisons, the empty regiment served primarily as a bureaucratic placeholder until it was completely disbanded in 1841.
