1st Regiment of ArtiIIery #33586896
Description
𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 - 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐲 “The Texas Artillery” The 1st Regiment of Artillery was formally authorized on December 20, 1836, by the First Congress to provide a permanent corps of technical specialists. Tasked with maintaining the nation’s ordnance, the regiment provided trained gunners for vital fortifications at Galveston, Matagorda, and Béxar, where specialized skills were required to man heavy iron and brass field pieces. Many members were veterans of the 1835–1836 campaigns, having served at the Siege of Béxar and San Jacinto. While the regiment saw its ranks thinned during the furloughs of 1837, it was revitalized under the Lamar administration in 1838 to secure national arsenals and depots. Rather than operating as a single maneuver element, its detachments were concentrated at strategic coastal and frontier hubs. Regiment Cap: 157
