𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐲 Founded in 1818, after the establishment of the Kingdom of Kandy. Formed from multiple armed factions within the island, by a Royal Charter from King Edward Rajasinha I. For the defence of our sovereignty, and people- Pro Patria! 𝐒𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧: Frederick Rajasinha II 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥: The Crown Princess 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡: "March of the Kandyans" 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Kandy, Central Province 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐨: "Pro Patria" 1818: Formation of the Army from local militias. The Royal Guard Regiment is created 1819: Formation of the Kandyan Cavalry Corps 1821: The need for more infantry required the creation of the Kandyan Rifle Regiment 1822: Formation of the Royal Grenadier Regiment as artillery support 1825: The Royal Prince Vijaya Militia is created to support the needs of the army and to defend the rural areas of the country 1835: Kottawella's Reforms resulted in the creation of Legions and several new regiments 1850: Reforms to streamline the Army
