Description
𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐏𝐔𝐋𝐔𝐒 𝐈𝐈𝐈𝐈 𝐇. The Hastati formed the front line of the Legio I Romana. They were equipped with a short sword (gladius), a rectangular shield (scutum), and wore a bronze chestplate (cardiophylax). They played a crucial role in the early stages of a battle, engaging the enemy in close combat before making way for the more seasoned soldiers of the Principes and Triarii manipulus in subsequent lines.
