Grand Duchy of Hesse and by Rhine ◙▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬◙ The Grand Duchy of Hesse was form in 1806, after Napoleon dismantled the HRE, and raised the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt to a Grand Duke. In 1866, after being on the losing side of the Austro-Prussian war, Hesse was joined with the other Northern states into the North German Confederation, and then German Empire in 1871 ◙▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬◙ Motto: Gott, Ehre, Vaterland Year: 1899
