The first Earl Of Northampton was a loyal military commander and strategist, rewarded handsomely for his courage fighting for the English army. He started the House of Dallington. The surname comes from the Old English words 'dael' - meaning valley, and 'tun' - meaning settlement. Today, the Dallington family still holds the Earldom of Northampton, residing in the Northamptonshire countryside.
