The Texas Army National Guard has its roots in the Texas Militia formed by Stephen F. Austin on the February 18th of 1836. The Texas Army National Guard was originally under the United States Army, however, since secession, the Authority has since been taken on by State authorities to fight against the federal government. Following secession, it merged with the Texas State Guard.
