Known as the “Wolfpack,” 3rd LAR is part of the 1st Marine Division and specializes in reconnaissance and security missions using Light Armored Vehicles (LAV-25s). These vehicles allow the unit to move quickly, cover long distances, and strike with precision. 3rd LAR’s main role is to serve as the eyes and ears of larger Marine forces. They conduct deep reconnaissance, screening operations, raids, and limited offensive missions. Their mobility and firepower make them ideal for gathering intelligence, engaging enemy forces, and shaping the battlefield before heavier units arrive. Each LAR company consists of multiple LAV crews and support elements, allowing for independent, flexible operations in varied environments. The unit is trained to operate in both conventional warfare and asymmetric combat situatio
