Description
Raised as an official regiment in 1626 and allotted in 1695 in the Savonian Region of Finland, the Savolax Light Infantry saw its action in the Great Northern War in the early colonial era and the war against Russia in 1788 and the Finnish war of 1808. Upon the outbreak of the Finnish war it was grouped along with its two counterparts; the Savolax Foothunters and Savolax Artillery which operated as a cohesive brigade, it saw actions at Oravais and northern Finland, starting at just 3370 men, it retreated from Finland fending off every Russian rearguard attack with only 760 left.
