Description
The earliest recorded mentions of House Haukibus appear around 180 BU, claiming to be heirs to the disintegrating rogue state of Reus Turba on Das Rosely. The costly Unification War had drained Totaria's coffers, and morale alone could not keep soldiers fighting without pay. King Dinj was forced to turn to a creditor, an incredibly wealthy merchant from Whitereap named Gris Haukibus. Sensing the new king's desperation, a loan was written at an exorbitant interest rate to secure a decisive end to the war. Then sometime after 5 BU, Totaria could not keep up on the debts owed to Gris, and running a fledgling nation was not profitable. At risk of defaulting, a deal was struck. The Haukibus family would settle the debt in return for being made lord over the Isle of Whitereap and the northern seas of Totaria. To this day they rule the Island of Das Rosely and Whitereap, tasked with the protection and taxation of trade in the ocean north of Totaria.
