Description
1921 Established in 1864 when lowly Branchett County and Valparaiso County were sectioned off to corner mineral rights for the Wilmington Mining Company, Big Rock County has long been an empty tract of semi-arid chaparrals and mountains, home to a few settlements, until oil was discovered on a plot of land near the seat of Holst in 1920.
