Kayılar, Anadolu Selçuklu Devletinin yıkılma sürecine girmesi ile Anadolu Beylikleri’nin bağımsız ve kendi başlarına idare edilmeye başlandığı dönemde Bizans’a karşı elde ettiği başarılar neticesinde güçlenmiş, yaklaşık 40 yıllık bir sürecin sonunda İmparatorluk haline gelerek Osmanlı Devletinin kurucu unsurları olmuşlardır.
